Okemos, MI 48864
If you plan to attend, RSVP -
Our first area recertification is this Saturday. See below for more information. As a reminder, you need to complete all
online modules before you can receive your badge in person on Saturday. It is not sufficient to just show up at the
recertification to receive your badge.
Grade 7/8/9 Recertification
Please note: If
you currently hold a 2017 USSF referee badge, generally by attending a bridge
or entry-level class during the summer 2017 timeframe, you do not need to
attend a recertification class. However,
please know that there is a substantial rewrite to the Laws of the Game, which
you will be responsible to know at the start of 2017. If you are looking to bridge from grade 9 to
grade 8, you should take the bridge class (see next section) instead of a
recertification class. You only need to
attend one class and pay the $67.50 cost via michiganrefs.gameofficials.net and
click on the link for “Grade [Your Referee Grade of 7, 8 or 9] Re
Certification”. Please note that you
will need to complete modules within Game Officials before the class in order
to receive your badge on the day of the class.
These are classes closest to the Jackson and Lansing area:
January 7, 2017 from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Hannah Community Center in East

the area. If you cannot make any of
these classes, the only recertification classes left will be outside of the
Jackson/Lansing area. Other classes can
be found at michiganrefs.gameofficials.net.
Grade 8 Bridge Class
If you are a grade 9 referee, are 14 years old and
looking to be able to officiate a wider variety of matches, please consider
taking the bridge class as compared to taking a recertification class. You will still receive a 2017 referee
badge. The cost is $67.50.

referees this year. For those of you who
are younger, please consider encouraging your parents to become referees. It is a great time to engage the whole family
together! We have two entry-level
classes established for winter 2017.
They only need to attend all sessions of one class to become certified
and receive a 2017 referee badge. The
cost is $67.50 and the registration links are below:

GLASRA is running an introductory training session at the Summit.
Sunday, March 15
2:00pm - 4:00pm
9410 Davis Hwy
It is targeted at new Grade 9 and Grade 8 referees. It is intended to help familiarize new officials with putting the Laws of the Game into practice as well as officiating in our local leagues in preparation for the Spring season. There is no charge for this training session and free GLASRA T-shirts will be provided to all attendees.
It is strongly recommended that new officials attend, if at all possible.
They should bring indoor soccer/refereeing shoes/equipment and a pencil/notepad and expect to participate in various drills.
The Summit Sports and Ice Complex is located at 9410 Davis Hwy, Dimondale, which is just off I-96.
Congrats to GLASRA member Charlie Coon who was selected as 2014 Michigan Young Male Referee of the Year! Read more about Charlie on our News page and be sure to congratulat him when you see him!
Charlie is one of several GLASRA referees who have won this award in recent years. GLASRA is on a four year run that has produced State, Regional, and even a National winner. Read more about those individuals at our News link.
We are always looking for eager referees who aspire to new levels. If you are that individual, contact new board member John Douglas who is heading our Mentor program.
Fellow GLASRA Members:
Please note that in order to officiate USSF matches in 2015, you must possess a 2015 USSF referee badge obtained through a recertification or bridge course. Grade 9 referees who took the entry-level course over the summer are certified for 2015 and do not need to attend a recertification course.
If you are a Grade 9 referee and wish to move to Grade 8, there is a Lansing-area bridge course you can take. After passing the course, you will receive a 2015 badge and become a Grade 8 referee. Therefore, you will not have to take the recertification course on January 10 and can take the bridge course in its place. You can register for the course by logging into GameOfficials (http://michiganrefs.gameofficials.net
). Here are the details:
Location: Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road, East Lansing, MI 48823
Class Dates: 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on both February 14 and February 21 (must attend both dates)
The final recertification course being held in the Lansing area this year is being held this Saturday, January 10, 2015. The class starts at 9:00 A.M. and concludes at 1:00 P.M. You need to register through GameOfficials (http://michiganrefs.gameofficials.net
) in order to attend the course. Please note that you will have to pay the registration fee through the website. Before attending, you need to take and pass modules within GameOfficials after registering. This includes taking a test on the Laws of the Game. Failure to successfully complete the modules and passing the test by Friday evening may prevent you from getting your 2015 badge at the course; therefore, please make sure to complete the modules and the test before then. If you do not receive your badge on Saturday, you are required to bring a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the recertification course so that once your requirements are met, your badge can be mailed to you. If you do not attend this course, there are courses elsewhere in the state where you may recertify. Consult GameOfficials for recertification course sites.
GLASRA calendar-year dues are now due for 2015. Annual dues are $15.00 for USSF referees and $25.00 for high school referees. No single referee pays more than $25.00, therefore, if you referee both high school and USSF, you only pay $25.00. You may pay your dues via cash or check at our Annual General Meeting on Saturday, January 10. If you cannot attend the meeting, you can mail your dues in a check or money order to the following address: GLASRA, P.O. Box 15186, Lansing, MI 48901. If mailing, please indicate for which referee(s) the dues apply.
Our Annual General Meeting is taking place after our recertification course on Saturday, January 10 at the Hannah Community Center (819 Abbot Road, East Lansing, MI 48823). During the meeting, we will have elections for the following positions:
· 2 Member-at-Large positions
If you are interested in any of these positions, please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org
. In addition, we have made changes to our constitution and by-laws and we will vote on those changes. This and much more will be mentioned during the meeting. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting!
